It’s been almost two years since Bob Barker retired from hosting The Price is Right for 35 years. Bob just turned 85 and is off helping control the pet population.
When Drew Carey was announced as Bob’s replacement I had my doubts, but he seemed to do a decent job. It wasn’t Bob’s way of doing things but no one could do it Bob’s way. When Jay Leno took over for Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show, he did things his own way and it was a success.
After what happened today on The Price is Right, I’ve come to realize that Drew was not the best replacement for Bob. What you’ll see in this video is something that has not happened on The Price is Right since 1972, and it was much easier to do then.
Way to build up the excitement Drew. I’m surprised we didn’t hear you snoring. This is a game show, and game show hosts are supposed to build excitement. It’s like you don’t even want to be there.
I miss Bob.

Anyone who is looking for a last minute gift for me and has…oh….$50,000 or so, can pick up this beauty for me. There’s three for sale, but I’m not greedy. I’ll take just one. In case you’re wondering "Hey! Doesn’t Drew need doors?" These are Bob’s doors. They redesigned the Price set from the ground up when Drew took over. Good luck fitting this under my tree.

Tomorrow we’ll see something we haven’t seen on television since 1972. Someone else will be hosting The Price is Right. If you know me at all, you know I’m a rabid fan of this show, and wanted the job of host ever since I was four years old.
When Bob Barker announced he was retiring it took CBS forever to find a replacement, and everyone wondered who could possibly take the reins over from the man who has been hosting game shows for 50 years. Drew Carey ended up getting the job, and after seeing some video that CBS posted on You Tube, I think he’s going to do great. Even though Bob Barker is my lifetime hero, I actually believe Drew is going to put some new life into this show.
All the games are the same, but they did change the set quite a bit. They did it well though, updating it but still keeping that retro game show look. They also updated the theme song for the first time ever. It’s the same theme, just re-recorded with some added percussion and in stereo! Stereo has been around on TV’s for what now, twenty years? About time.
The “Come on Down” music has been re-done too. That’s the music they play whenever someone is called out of the audience and when they win a one-bid to go up on stage to play a pricing game. More percussion here too, but it’s still the same song they’ve been using since the mid 70’s. When the show started in ‘72 they used a different theme for this, but this version is the one everyone knows.
I’ll miss Bob, but I think the show is in good hands.
